How to install a light switch without the help of technician
A switch is an electrical system that serves to turn on and off the lights from different points of the house, at both ends of a corridor. For example, on the headboard of the bed and next to the door in a bedroom. With them, you not only gain comfort but also bring significant savings in electricity. Here, we are going to talk about how to install a light switch.
How to install a light switch?
The switch is the simplest of all and always works with two cables. It is interesting to review the attached connection diagram. We will install a switch whenever we want to turn on and off a lamp or bulb from a single point in the room or stay. That lamp can only be activated from that mechanism and not from another alternative, that’s why we use a switch in this case.
Replace the house switches
The solution is simple, and you can get it by changing the current household switches by switches. The switches are like switches that turn off or turn on the lights of the house but that have a difference with the common ones; the switches share a point of light between two or more units.
Installation process
Its installation is somewhat more complex than that of the current switches. In addition to the cables that connect the devices with the lamp or bulb in question and with the registration box, they are also connected to cables, known as bridge cables, which communicate them each. To install them yourself, cut off the power and remove the old switches with a screwdriver or thin chisel.
The current always travels in two parallel cables (note that the electric cables usually have 2 or 3 wires together). Well, for 2 of them the current is moved, they are called:
- PHASE (R): It can be brown, black or gray
- NEUTRAL (N) : Blue color
- EARTH (T): Optional (usually yellow-green), but it does not affect us when connecting a switch.
One of the switches connects a cable, either neutral or phase, that leaves the electrical network to reach the switch. The same thing we have to take into account: the second switch. The two cables arrive at the other end to the point of light, which is also accessible to the neutral cable and the ground cable from the network. The two switches communicate with each other through the jumper cables, which will be different colors from the classic neutral, which is blue, the phase that is black, gray or brown and the earth that can be yellow or green.
Set the cables
At home, the jumper cables are probably pre-installed. You only have to install them on the appropriate devices of the switches, but if they are not, you must do it. Thanks to the switches, the light can be controlled from different points of the house with the comfort that this entails. Another good option is to install electric regulators that, in addition to the above, allow to regulate the intensity of light to achieve different environments for each occasion.
