How to Design With Low Light Exotic House Plants

The light is a fundamental requirement for the successful development of a plant. Along with humidity and heat, it provides a vegetable with the necessary elements to prosper. However, not all species need the same amount of light and it is not necessary to have them fully exposed outside our home. In this article, we explain what are the indoor plants with low light that you can comfortably take care of at home.

Steps to designing with low light exotic house plants

Step 1:

There are multiple factors that influence a plant to grow better indoors. Generally, these types of plants are tropical, that do not withstand air currents and that need to be constantly at an average temperature, around 20ºC, since with their tropical condition they cannot withstand cold climates and would not survive the frosts of winters.

Step 2:

On the other hand, indoor plants do not require the same amount of light as outdoor plants. However, this does not mean that natural light is dispensable, since all plants, whatever their type, require light in order to develop and grow. Of course, indoor plants do not withstand direct sunlight.

Step 3:

As for humidity and watering, you should try to spray and moisturize the pot where your houseplant is found often. You should bear in mind that, in addition to its tropical condition, heating and heaters tend to dry out the room more. These types of plants usually need more humidity than the rest and you should pay more attention to watering during the warm months (spring and summer).

Step 4:

Here are some ideal plants to take care of at home. All of them meet the requirements of indoor plants that need low light and constant temperature and humidity. Take note.

Step 5:

Fittonia “Bianco Verde”. This beautiful plant combines in its leaves the white and green colors that will give your home an exotic touch. It is a plant that requires a lot of humidity and an always warm environment. If you have a terrarium, this is your ideal plant. In order for it to grow healthy and strong, you should avoid direct sunlight and fertilize it every 15 days, approximately, in hot seasons (spring-summer). During the cold months, it will be enough to keep the warmth of the terrarium.

Step 6:

Another perfect example of the interior is peace lily. In addition to being a plant that requires little light, it is perfect for filtering impurities from the air. Decorating the corners of your home with it will be a success, thanks to its white flowers that undoubtedly attract attention. The Espatifilo is a grateful plant, which tolerates light but never directly, so it is better to take care of it in shady places with slightly elevated humidity and temperature. It is recommended to only water the upper part of the compost when it is dry.

Step 7:

The philodendron is a plant that many people usually have in your home. Its intense green and heart-shaped leaves make this climber look great in hanging baskets or large pots. Being a houseplant that requires little light, it needs a warm environment to develop. You just have to keep in mind that you should never lack moisture and water in your compost because in that case, the tips of its leaves will start to break.

These are some examples of indoor plants that require little light. You can ask for more information at your trusty nursery or garden store.
